Here are some useful links to various helpful sites that I enjoy browsing.
Plans:
• Selway Fisher: This is the site for the designer of many boats, kayaks and canoes. You can buy your plans on line. Paul is very helpful and if you have queries he will answer promptly by e-mail.
• Dennis Davis: Interesting Kayak designs using novel bending techniques to achieve the hull shapes. He has no website but if you want a list of plans then send an e-mail him by clicking on his name or the underlined email link and he will send an illustrated list.
• Chesapeake Light Craft: USA Supplier of plans and kits for various kayaks. Also lots of information.
• Guillemot Kayaks: Supplier of designs and kits for beautiful wood strip kayaks. Good discussion forum and lots of useful information. I shall make one of these one day when I have time!
•Fyneboat Kits: If you decide to buy a kit you might try this UK company. They have a good range of kits and plans.
Resin and glue:
• SP resins: I have used this resin for both boats. Seems a somewhat complicated site!
• West Systems: Another well known resin system (UK distributor).
• UK Epoxy Resins: Resins and materials you can purchase on -line. Together with free designs! Materials and Tools:
• Marine Plywood: Words of wisdom about plywood.
• Axminster Tools: every tool you could possibly want.
• Screwfix: UK Fasteners company of all types of screws (especially Stainless Steel) at bargain prices.
• RWO: Hatches and fittings.
Kayaking Equipment:
• Desperate Measures: Nottingham based supplier of new boats, paddles and all kayaking equipment at good prices.
• Knoydart: Kayaks, Canoes and accessories.
Other builders:
• Robert Wagenvoort: Robert has built a beautiful ESK 14 that he has increased in size by 5%. Read all about the building and launching. Go to "downloads" when you reach his page then select "seakayak.pdf" for the English version. He also has another site for a novel car top boat lifting rack which may be of interest, so go to http://web.mac.com/robertwagenvoort for information on this.
• Home boat building in the UK: lots of links to all sorts of general boatbuilding sites and free designs.
• Nantcoly Boats: Now here is a site all about those strip-built kayaks. Paul Kent designs and builds kayaks and canoes down in Wales. Worth a read, maybe I will build one of these when I have time!
• Harbour Boats: Makers of Beautiful hand built kayaks and canoes. If all goes wrong you could always buy one these instead!
Miscellaneous:
• Holme Pierrepont Canoe Club: My local club.
• Dorset: Find out about my beautiful County and consider a visit!
• Poole: One of the largest Natural harbours in the world! A truly magic place!
• Poole Harbour Canoe Club: For Kayaks and canoes when in Poole harbour.
• British Canoe Union: Kayaking information and Star competency tests.
• Sea Kayaking UK: Web site for Nigel Dennis who builds kayaks and runs courses. I own one of his sea kayaks and have also attended one of his courses at Anglesey.
• The Moorhen Bed & Breakfast: Based at Horning in Norfolk, David and Christine Batley run the Moorhen and organise the Norfolk Bed and Breakfast Canoe trails. Fine accomodation, magnificent breakfasts and well arranged trips. Go soon!
• The Canoe Man: Mark Wilkinson is the "Canoe Man" as well as supplying transport and canoes for the B&B trails, Mark runs many other canoeing trips on the Broads. So check out his site and get booked on to a trip.
• Norfolk Mills: This is a very interesting and comprehensive web site devoted to the mills of Norfolk and contains a great deal of information. Take a look at the history of the many mills that dot the Norfolk countryside.
