The day started very beautifully again with a cloudless sky and warm sun. After breakfast we paddled away from the pub at about 10am.

The river was much busier with boat traffic on this section and on the banks we could see large houses with gardens running down to the river. The down side was that there were many “No Mooring” and “Private” signs along the banks.

Even so there are plenty of trees lining the bank and lots of dragonflies, ducks, geese and swans. Whilst the cruisers sometimes followed each other in long lines, at other times all was quiet and we had the river to ourselves so we could enjoy the beauty.

After a refreshment stop at Wroxham Staithe which is, confusingly, on the other side of a large hairpin bend before you get to Wroxham proper, we continued to Wroxham and as we were in plenty of time paddled downriver into Wroxham Broad.

Because it was a beautiful hot Sunday afternoon, every hire boat was on the water together with most of the cruisers which made it very busy near the road bridge so that passing through the arch had to be done with care. We passed safely under the bridge and its adjacent footbridge and down the river to Wroxham Broad where we crossed to a pontoon near the yacht club and ate our packed lunch. We paddled around the bottom of the broad and returned back up the river.

The King’s Head pub, on the waterfront above Wroxham Bridge, was our overnight stop. After the manager had helped us put our canoe safely into a shed for the night we adjourned to our room which overlooked the river with windows facing south and west. Many thanks to Graham and Jackie at the King’s Head for all their help.
